Pay Range: $19–$22 per hour

Job Summary
The Utility Supervisor – Dishroom is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the dishroom at Calvin University Dining Hall. This is a working supervisor position that combines hands-on dishroom and sanitation responsibilities with staff supervision and leadership.
The Utility Supervisor will ensure the dishroom operates efficiently, safely, and consistently throughout meal periods. This position is responsible for directing and supporting dishroom team members, maintaining proper cleaning and sanitation standards, ensuring dishes and kitchen wares are properly cleaned and sanitized, and communicating operational needs to management.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the Dining Hall dishroom, ensuring an efficient workflow during meal periods and throughout the day.
- Train, direct, and supervise utility and dishroom team members.
- Assign daily tasks and provide direction to ensure all dishroom responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.
- Work alongside the dishroom team to wash, sanitize, organize, and return dishes, utensils, cookware, and other kitchen wares to the appropriate areas.
- Ensure dishwashing equipment is operated properly and that dishes and kitchen wares meet cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Monitor dishroom cleanliness, organization, safety, and sanitation throughout the day.
- Maintain appropriate levels of clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen wares to support continuous Dining Hall service.
- Help manage the flow of dirty dishes and clean wares to prevent backups and interruptions to meal service.
- Participate in hiring, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions as directed by management.
- Provide instruction, coaching, and leadership to utility staff while keeping management informed of operational concerns and staff performance.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, coolers, work tables, restrooms, and other assigned areas.
- Organize the janitor’s closet and maintain cleanliness of employee entrances, loading docks, and landscaping areas.
- Monitor and refill cleaning supply stations.
- Ensure trash is regularly emptied and receptacles are clean.
- Keep receiving and dock areas clean and organized.
- Notify management of faulty dishroom or kitchen equipment and assist in tracking maintenance and cleaning logs.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and chemical handling procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Requires lifting up to 25 lbs and performing physical cleaning and dishroom tasks in varied environments, including hot, cold, wet, or humid conditions. Involves prolonged standing and walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and repetitive tasks. Position requires handling cleaning chemicals and supplies and may involve working around wet floors, water, and loud equipment.
