The Truck Shop Service Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating repair and maintenance work for trucks and equipment by scheduling jobs, assigning technicians, and communicating with drivers, customers, and shop staff. This role ensures efficient workflow, timely repairs, and high customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and dispatch repair and maintenance jobs to technicians based on priority, skill level, and availability
- Communicate with drivers and customers regarding service needs, timelines, and repair status
- Create, manage, and update work orders in the shop management system
- Monitor shop workflow to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on schedule
- Coordinate parts availability with parts vendors to prevent delays
- Prioritize emergency breakdowns and time-sensitive repairs
- Track vehicle downtime and provide updates to customers
- Maintain accurate records of services performed, labor hours, and job status
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures
- Support service lead and shop managers as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in truck repair, fleet maintenance, or service dispatching preferred
- Strong knowledge of heavy-duty trucks, diesel equipment, or mechanical repair processes
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with computer systems, shop software, and basic office tools
- Ability to work well with technicians, drivers, and management
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a trucking, transportation, or fleet service environment
- Familiarity with DOT requirements and preventative maintenance schedules
- Bilingual (a plus, not required)
Work Environment
- Shop and office-based environment
- May require extended hours or flexibility to handle breakdowns or urgent repairs
Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
