Position Overview
NewElec Pretoria Pty Ltd, a leading manufacturer and supplier of motor and earth leakage protection relays, is seeking a results-driven Technical Traveling Sales Representative to service existing clients and actively develop new business opportunities in the field. This role combines direct customer interaction, travel-based relationship building, and technical solution-selling in industrial environments.
The successful candidate will work off a structured call plan, targeting panel builders, OEMs, system integrators, resellers, contractors, and end users across key industrial sectors. A strong background in electrical or automation environments is essential, as the role requires the ability to confidently discuss technical products, applications, and installation queries.
Key Responsibilities
· Visit existing and potential customers according to a defined travel and call schedule.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in target industries.
· Identify new business opportunities and convert leads into sales across regional territories.
· Promote and demonstrate NewElec’s motor protection relays and related products.
· Deliver on monthly sales targets and KPIs as agreed with management.
· Work closely with Internal Sales and Marketing to follow up on leads, quotes, and campaigns.
· Provide basic on-site product demonstrations or application guidance when required.
· Maintain accurate records of visits, outcomes, opportunities, and competitor activity.
· Assist with product feedback collection and customer insights to improve market fit.
· Support trade shows, technical seminars, and promotional events as needed.
Qualifications & Education:
· Matric (Grade 12) is required.
· N6/National Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical, Mechatronics, or Automation (preferred).
· Valid South African driver’s license (Code B or above).
Experience:
· 2–5 years of external sales experience in a technical/electrical or industrial setting.
· Proven track record in B2B relationship development and regional territory management.
· Experience dealing with industrial customers such as panel builders, system integrators, OEMs, or plant maintenance teams.
Technical Competencies:
· Good understanding of electrical principles including 3-phase power, motor control, protection devices, and wiring basics.
· Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and interpret relay specifications.
· Familiarity with motor protection relays, VSDs, PLCs, or SCADA will be advantageous.
Soft Skills:
· Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
· Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills.
· Resilient under pressure, target-driven, and capable of working independently.
· Confident, well-presented, and able to represent the company professionally.
