Technical Training Instructor (FAA Part 145 Repair Station)
Position Summary
The Technical Training Instructor is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining technical training programs for FAA Part 145 repair station mechanics and technicians. This role provides classroom-based instruction focused on the inspection, repair, overhaul, troubleshooting, and testing of aircraft components, including flight control surfaces, nacelle components, actuators, valves, pumps, and related assemblies.
The instructor will create, maintain, and continuously improve training materials, ensuring all content aligns with FAA regulations, company procedures, OEM requirements, and industry best practices. The role serves as a technical subject matter expert and plays a critical part in developing workforce capability, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
The position is expected to maintain a strong presence on the production floor to ensure training content remains aligned with current repair procedures, workmanship standards, regulatory requirements, and operational best practices. The successful candidate will spend approximately 50% of their time delivering and developing classroom training and 50% of their time working directly with technicians in the shop environment, providing hands-on instruction, coaching, practical demonstrations, and qualification assessments. This role serves as a key link between training, quality, engineering, and operations to ensure a highly skilled and compliant workforce.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training Development
- Design, develop, and maintain technical training curricula for FAA Part 145 repair station personnel.
- Create instructor-led training materials, presentations, participant guides, assessments, practical exercises, and laboratory demonstrations.
- Develop training content covering component repair, overhaul, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance.
- Review and update training materials to reflect changes in FAA regulations, OEM manuals, repair procedures, and company processes.
- Establish training standards and learning objectives for various technician skill levels.
Training Delivery
- Conduct classroom instruction for mechanics, technicians, inspectors, and support personnel.
- Deliver technical training on:
- Flight control surfaces
- Nacelle components
- Actuators
- Hydraulic and pneumatic valves
- Pumps
- Related aircraft component systems
- Facilitate hands-on demonstrations and practical learning activities when applicable.
- Evaluate trainee performance through written tests, practical evaluations, and classroom participation.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to trainees and production personnel.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure training programs meet FAA Part 145 requirements and company quality system requirements.
- Maintain training records and documentation as required by regulatory and company standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Subject Matter Experts to ensure technical accuracy.
- Identify training gaps and recommend improvements to increase workforce competency and operational performance.
- Support audits, customer visits, and regulatory inspections related to training programs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in aircraft component maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), with at least 3 years repairing airframe components such as flight control surfaces, nacelles, actuators, valves, pumps, or related assemblies.
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing and delivering technical training programs in an aerospace, aviation, or MRO environment.
- Strong working knowledge of FAA Part 145 regulations, quality systems, and training requirements.
- Experience creating technical training materials, lesson plans, examinations, practical assessments, and qualification matrices.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, maintenance manuals, repair procedures, and technical publications.
- Strong verbal communication, classroom presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems (LMS), and presentation software.
Preferred Qualifications
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
- Experience serving as a Lead Technician, Supervisor, Quality Inspector, or Technical Trainer within a Part 145 Repair Station.
- EASA Part 145 knowledge or experience.
- Experience developing FAA-compliant training record systems and technician qualification programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Maintenance, Engineering Technology, Adult Education, or related field.

Working Conditions
- Position requires approximately 50% classroom-based instruction and curriculum development and 50% shop floor engagement, providing hands-on technical training, demonstrations, coaching, and employee qualification assessments.
- Regular presence in an FAA Part 145 repair station environment, including production, inspection, testing, and overhaul areas.
- Frequent interaction with mechanics, technicians, inspectors, engineering, quality, and operations personnel.
- Must be able to safely work in an industrial aerospace environment around aircraft components, machinery, test equipment, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, and lifting devices.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while delivering classroom instruction and conducting practical demonstrations.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move training aids, component parts, and technical equipment up to established company guidelines.
