This is a senior individual contributor role inside a well established Dutch engineering company working on high voltage substation infrastructure. The projects are real, the standards are high, and you'll have genuine ownership over the technical work you produce.
What you'll be doing
The focus is basic and detailed design, protection and controls specifically. You'll work across utility-scale HV substation projects, owning design output from early concept through to detailed documentation. There's also a clear pathway into commissioning as projects move into that phase.
You'll work closely with project leads, clients, and other disciplines, communication matters here, but you won't be managing a team. You will be the technical reference point on your projects, and that comes with real accountability.
Your day to day
- Detailed design of HV substation protection and control systems
- Protection schemes, relay coordination, single line diagrams, cable schedules, and associated documentation
- Load flow, short circuit, and arc flash studies with design reports
- Working with SEL relay platforms, settings, logic, and testing coordination
- Regular use of AutoCAD, SEL Accelerator, and SKM
- Collaboration with project teams, clients, and contractors, split between office and site across Rotterdam and Zwolle
What we're looking for
- Around 8 to 15 years in substation design with a strong P&C background.
- You've worked across multiple voltage levels, you're comfortable with SEL equipment, and you can produce high-quality design output without constant oversight.
- A PE license or equivalent is an advantage.
- English fluency is required; Dutch is a bonus, not a requirement.
- The company works on some of the more technically demanding HV infrastructure projects in the Netherlands, the kind that attract engineers who want to keep growing, not just accumulate seniority.
