Full Job Description
Ethekweni Refractories has an exciting opportunity in our safety Department. We are looking for a talented individual with relevant skills and experience based in Durban as a Safety Officer.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
Matric
National Diploma in Safety Management or Environmental Health
Samtrac Registered
5-7 Years Safety Officer Workplace Experience
Valid Driver License
Skills Required:
Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines
Extensive attention to detail to distinguish safety hazards
Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures
Good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment
Good organizational, leadership and motivational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to recognize when safety conditions need improvement
Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident
Communication and influencing skills, in person and in writing
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities and Duties:
1.Ensure compliance and governance of Health and Safety regulations.
· Conduct safety inspections and audits on a frequent and regular basis.
· Compile risk assessments daily and annually.
· Conduct regular Fire Prevention inspections.
· Ensure all safety signs and notices are prominently displayed at all sites.
· Ensure machinery is in good working order and maintained in accordance to OHS requirements.
· Ensure good housekeeping principles are maintained.
· Ensure all H&S reps conduct monthly inspections of their work area and on site
· Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements – OHS Act, Municipal By-laws, etc.
· Including COVID protocols.
2.Ensure policies and procedures are in place at all sites, and adhered to.
· Ensure adherence to group Health and Safety policies and procedures.
· Maintain site emergency evacuation plans.
· Maintain the accident and incident investigation programme.
· Ensure all registers and checklists are updated.
3.Manage and coordinate administration related to H&S.
· Submit and maintain IOD claims to WCA and RMA.
· Ensure sound maintenance of OHS records at all sites.
· Ensure warnings are issued for non-adherence.
· Compile daily and monthly OHS reports.
4. Develop and maintain relationships at branch level.
· Carry out job observations on high-risk activities and provide feedback.
· Chair safety meetings with the safety reps, Line Manager and 16.2.
· Conduct toolbox talks.
· Coordinate all H&S training of employees.
· Ensure all legal appointments are fulfilling their duties.
· Inform and update Project Management and Managing Director on compliance levels of each project site.
· Ensure that all staff and local labour adhere to all company and site Policies and Procedures.
