Full-Time Road Crew / Service Department Team Member
Lafayette Township, Medina County, Ohio
Lafayette Township is accepting applications for a full-time Service Department employee to replace a retiring crew member. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of our township’s roads, facilities, cemeteries, and public spaces.

ABOUT THE POSITION
This is a full-time, year-round position responsible for:
Roadway & Drainage Maintenance
- Maintaining and repairing township roads in accordance with Ohio Revised Code §§ 5571, 5575.
- Patching, crack-sealing, berming, ditching, and culvert installation/repair.
- Roadside mowing, trimming, and vegetation control.
- Winter operations, including snow plowing, salting, and de-icing on township-maintained roads and facilities.
- Assisting with annual and long-term road programs (repaving, chip-seal, resurfacing).
Facilities & Property Maintenance
- Maintenance of township buildings, grounds, park facilities, and equipment.
- Upkeep and care of Lafayette Township cemeteries, including grounds maintenance, grave preparation assistance, and monument/structure care.
- General labor, repairs, and special projects as assigned.
Equipment Operation & Care
- Safe operation of heavy equipment including dump trucks, plows, loaders, excavators, skid steers, mowers, and other service-department tools.
- Routine maintenance and inspections on vehicles and equipment.
- Maintaining detailed logs and reports as required.
Public Service & Safety
- Responding to emergencies, storm events, and after-hours needs as required.
- Working professionally with residents, contractors, and public officials.
- Maintaining compliance with all township safety policies, state regulations, and best practices.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license.
- Current CDL-B.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL with air brakes within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to use hand and power tools safely.
- Availability for on-call winter operations and emergency response.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(Not required but strongly beneficial)
- Experience with snow plowing, road maintenance, or public works.
- Experience operating heavy equipment (front loader, excavator, skid steer, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of roadway construction, drainage, stormwater systems, or concrete/asphalt work.
- Previous municipal, township, or construction experience.
