Job Type: Permanent, full-time position. 1st shift (4-10 hour days)
Department: Machine Shop Compensation: $20.00 hr + (Dependent on experience)

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Material Handler / Light Maintenance employee to support the day-to-day operations of our machine shop. This position will be responsible for safely handling and organizing raw materials, cutting material to specified sizes, assisting with machine shop operations, and performing basic facility and equipment maintenance.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-minded, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, unload, move, and organize raw materials throughout the machine shop.
  • Operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.
  • Cut raw materials such as bar stock, tubing, pipe, plate, and other metals to specified lengths using saws and other shop equipment.
  • Verify material type, dimensions, and quantities before cutting or distributing materials.
  • Label and properly store raw materials and completed cut pieces.
  • Prepare and stage materials for machinists and production personnel.
  • Maintain accurate organization of material storage areas.
  • Perform basic machine shop support duties as needed.
  • Perform light maintenance and repairs around the shop and facility.
  • Replace light bulbs, filters, hardware, and other routine maintenance items.
  • Assist with equipment cleaning, lubrication, and general upkeep as directed.
  • Keep work areas, material storage areas, and shop floors clean and organized.
  • Identify equipment or facility issues and report problems requiring additional repair.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE and safe material-handling practices.
  • Assist other shop personnel with general labor and production-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a machine shop, manufacturing, warehouse, or maintenance environment preferred.
  • Experience cutting metal or other raw materials is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, or other shop measurement equipment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read basic measurements and follow material cut lists or work instructions.
  • Forklift experience or certification preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier materials moved using appropriate equipment or assistance.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, push, pull, and work around machinery.
  • Ability to safely operate saws, forklifts, and other shop equipment after proper training.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, metal chips, dust, and varying temperatures.
