Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, skilled, and service-oriented Maintenance & Facilities Worker to support the daily operations of buildings. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, functional, and welcoming environment for students, staff, clients, and visitors. The successful candidate will perform a broad range of preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance tasks involving building systems, grounds maintenance, custodial support, and facility repairs. This role requires the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, respond promptly to facility needs, and contribute positively to a therapeutic educational and administrative environment.
Seasonal responsibilities include snow and ice removal, landscaping, and grounds maintenance. Overtime may be required during weather-related events and facility emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Building Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
- Complete preventative and corrective maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
- Maintain doors, windows, locks, hardware, furniture, fixtures, walls, ceilings, flooring, and other building components.
- Perform painting, patching, drywall repair, and general upkeep of interior and exterior spaces.
- Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and special event support as needed.
Plumbing
- Diagnose and repair plumbing issues including leaks, clogs, and fixture malfunctions.
- Repair and replace flushometers, faucets, sinks, toilets, washers, valves, and related plumbing components.
- Perform copper pipe soldering and basic plumbing system maintenance.
- Respond to emergency plumbing situations and help mitigate damage.
Electrical
- Replace outlets, switches, bulbs, ballasts, and lighting fixtures.
- Conduct basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs within scope of training and qualifications.
- Coordinate with licensed contractors for complex electrical work when necessary.
Carpentry & General Trades
- Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, saws, and grinders, to construct, assemble, repair, and maintain facilities, equipment, and materials while adhering to established safety procedures.
- Repair doors, cabinetry, shelving, furniture, fencing, and other structures.
- Construct or modify simple fixtures and building components.
- Perform rough carpentry projects and grounds-related repairs.
Masonry & Exterior Maintenance
- Complete minor masonry repairs to walls, walkways, retaining structures, and stone fencing.
- Maintain building exteriors, sidewalks, and outdoor facilities.
HVAC Support
- Assist with routine inspections and preventative maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Coordinate with third-party HVAC contractors during scheduled service, repairs, and emergency calls.
- Monitor building comfort and report system deficiencies.
Custodial & Housekeeping Support
- Address custodial issues that impact the cleanliness, safety, or appearance of facilities.
- Respond to spills, urgent cleaning needs, and facility-related concerns.
- Assist in maintaining sanitation standards throughout educational and administrative areas.
Groundskeeping & Snow Removal
- Maintain campus grounds, landscaping, parking areas, sidewalks, and outdoor spaces.
- Operate lawn care and grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform snow plowing, shoveling, snow blowing, salting, and ice control operations.
- Participate in emergency weather response efforts, including overtime assignments as needed.
Technology & Work Order Management
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or online ticketing platforms to receive, document, and complete work orders.
- Maintain accurate records of completed tasks, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, vendors, and contractors regarding maintenance needs and project status.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all agency safety policies, OSHA regulations, and facility procedures.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed in a manner that promotes a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and equipment.
- Report safety hazards, accidents, and facility deficiencies promptly.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to Company
- Ability to operate agency vehicles.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance systems and repair techniques.
- Ability to use computers, email, and work order/ticket management software.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.
- Strong attendance, reliability, and time-management skills.
Preferred
- One to three years of facilities maintenance, building operations, custodial, groundskeeping, or related experience.
- Experience working in a school, healthcare, residential, behavioral health, or multi-building campus environment.
- Trade-specific experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, or masonry.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.
Ability to respond to facility emergencies outside of normal business hours when required.
Pay: $19.32 per hour
