Position Summary

The In-House Carpenter / Restoration Technician is responsible for completing residential and light commercial reconstruction and repair work following water, fire, mold, and other property damage. This position requires a highly skilled, dependable, and versatile tradesperson who can independently perform a wide variety of construction and finish work.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, experienced, professional, and detail-oriented carpenter who can take a project from start to finish with minimal supervision. The candidate must be comfortable working across multiple trades, reading and understanding Xactimate estimates and work orders, communicating directly with homeowners and Project Managers, and maintaining a clean, professional job site.

The successful candidate will take pride in their workmanship and represent the company professionally while working in customers’ homes.

Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Construction & Carpentry

  • Perform general carpentry and reconstruction work associated with residential and light commercial restoration projects.
  • Complete projects according to the approved scope of work, estimate, work order, and company standards.
  • Perform demolition and selective removal when required.
  • Complete framing, drywall, insulation, trim, doors, cabinets, flooring, and finish carpentry.
  • Install and repair baseboard, casing, crown molding, shelving, and other finish materials.
  • Hang, tape, finish, and repair drywall.
  • Perform interior and exterior repairs as required.
  • Complete punch-list items and warranty work.
  • Identify potential issues or changes in scope and communicate them to the Project Manager before proceeding.

Multi-Trade Responsibilities

The ideal candidate must be capable of handling multiple construction trades and completing a project without relying on subcontractors for every phase of the work.

The employee is expected to understand the limits of their licensing, training, and qualifications and must not perform work requiring a Connecticut trade license unless properly licensed or authorized to do so under applicable law and company policy.

Reading Estimates & Work Orders

  • Read and understand Xactimate estimates, scopes of work, work orders, and project documentation.
  • Understand measurements, quantities, materials, labor requirements, and line-item descriptions.
  • Use the approved scope to determine the work that needs to be completed.
  • Review the scope with the Project Manager when clarification is needed.
  • Identify discrepancies between the approved scope and actual site conditions.
  • Communicate additional or unforeseen work before performing work outside the approved scope.
  • Document completed work and notify the Project Manager of any incomplete or changed items.

Independent Work

  • Work independently with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Plan and organize daily work based on project priorities and deadlines.
  • Arrive at jobs prepared with the necessary tools, materials, and information.
  • Determine the appropriate sequence of work to complete projects efficiently.
  • Maintain productivity without requiring constant direction.
  • Recognize problems and seek appropriate solutions.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and tasks from start to completion.
  • Meet established project timelines and communicate immediately when delays are anticipated.

Customer Service & Communication

The In-House Carpenter is frequently working inside customers’ homes and is expected to represent the company professionally at all times.

  • Communicate professionally with homeowners, Project Managers, subcontractors, and other employees.
  • Explain basic work being performed when appropriate.
  • Maintain a respectful and professional attitude with customers.
  • Listen to homeowner concerns and communicate them to the Project Manager.
  • Never make promises regarding pricing, insurance coverage, or changes to the scope without authorization.
  • Maintain professional phone and in-person communication.
  • Be well spoken, courteous, and approachable.
  • Maintain a clean and presentable appearance while representing the company.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly English/Spanish, are a plus.

Job Site Standards

  • Protect the customer’s property and belongings while performing work.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Clean the work area at the end of each workday.
  • Properly dispose of construction debris and materials.
  • Follow company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Follow company procedures for documenting completed work.
  • Take photographs when required by company policy or the Project Manager.

Tools & Equipment

The employee must provide and maintain their own professional hand tools and standard carpentry tools necessary to perform the job.

QualificationsRequired

  • Proven experience as a carpenter, construction technician, remodeling contractor, or restoration technician.
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction and remodeling.
  • Ability to perform work across multiple trades.
  • Ability to read and understand construction estimates and work orders.
  • Ability to accurately measure and calculate materials.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Own professional tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred

  • Restoration industry experience.
  • Experience working with insurance restoration projects.
  • Xactimate familiarity.
  • Experience working from insurance-approved scopes.
  • IICRC certifications.
  • OSHA training.
  • Experience with water, fire, and mold restoration projects.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
  • Connecticut trade licenses or certifications where applicable.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding construction work, including:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, kneeling, stooping, and crawling.
  • Lifting and carrying construction materials and equipment.
  • Working from ladders and elevated surfaces.
  • Operating hand and power tools.
  • Working in unfinished and occasionally challenging environments.
  • Repeated lifting of materials and equipment as required by the job.

Pay: $25.83 – $31.11 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 50.0 per week
