About the Position
Crystal Valley Catering is looking for an experienced, dependable Mexican Food Prep Specialist to join our early-morning kitchen team.
We already produce a large variety of foods, but we want to improve and expand our Mexican food offerings. We are looking for someone who has hands-on experience preparing foods such as burritos, tacos, salsas, seasoned meats, rice, beans, sauces, and other Mexican dishes and can help us make these items more authentic, flavorful, and consistent.
This is more than a basic food-prep position. We want someone who can bring ideas to the table, share cooking techniques, help improve recipes, and eventually take some ownership of this part of our kitchen production.
At the same time, this is a high-volume production kitchen, so the right person needs to be able to work quickly, stay organized, and produce consistent food every day.
Schedule
Start time: 3:00 AM
Typical schedules may include:
- Part-time: approximately 3:00 AM–8:00 AM
- Full-time: approximately 3:00 AM–11:00 AM
- Monday through Friday
- No weekends
Exact hours can vary depending on the position, workload, and availability.
Because this position starts at 3:00 AM, applicants must be able to arrive rested, alert, and on time consistently.
What You’ll Be Doing
Responsibilities may include:
- Preparing burritos, sauces, breakfast burritos, and other Mexican-inspired foods
- Preparing and seasoning meats
- Making fresh salsas, sauces, rice, beans, and fillings
- Helping us improve the flavor and authenticity of our existing recipes
- Suggesting new Mexican food items we could add to our menu
- Helping develop recipes that can be reproduced consistently in a high-volume kitchen
- Teaching or showing other kitchen employees proper preparation methods
- Assembling and packaging food quickly and accurately
- Preparing ingredients for daily production
- Keeping work areas clean and organized
- Following food safety and sanitation procedures
- Helping the kitchen team complete daily production including other non Mexican food items
What We’re Looking For
We are especially interested in someone who:
- Has real experience preparing Mexican food
- Understands Mexican seasonings, meats, salsas, sauces, rice, beans, tortillas, and similar foods
- Can contribute ideas for improving our recipes and expanding our menu
- Can work quickly and efficiently in a production environment
- Can maintain quality while working at a fast pace
- Is dependable and consistently on time for a 3:00 AM start
- Is clean, organized, and able to follow food-safety procedures
- Can work well as part of a team
- Is comfortable helping teach others techniques and recipes
- Can regularly lift 40+ pounds
- Can communicate effectively in English well enough to understand instructions, discuss recipes, coordinate with the kitchen team, and follow safety procedures
Spanish is welcome but not required.
Restaurant, catering, food-truck, bakery, commissary, or other high-volume kitchen experience is strongly preferred.
Pay
Starting pay: $13–$14/hour, depending on experience
Employees are also eligible for a weekly attendance bonus when they work their scheduled shifts:
- Part-time: up to $20-30/week
- Full-time: up to $40/week
For many schedules, the attendance bonus adds roughly another $1/hour equivalent for employees with consistent attendance.
