Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Technician
MJM Logistics, LLC is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Technician to join our team at our Chillicothe, Ohio facility.
This position will be based in a brand-new, newly constructed maintenance shop at MJM Logistics and will be responsible for helping maintain and repair the commercial vehicle and equipment fleets operated by MJM Logistics, MJM Express, and Mound.
This is an in-house fleet maintenance position. The primary focus is keeping our own trucks and equipment safe, reliable, and available for operation.
Position Responsibilities
The Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Technician will perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and general fleet maintenance on a variety of commercial vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled services on company trucks and equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, air, brake, and other vehicle issues
- Perform repairs on diesel engines and related components
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair air brake systems
- Perform repairs and maintenance on suspensions, steering systems, drivetrains, cooling systems, and electrical systems
- Troubleshoot check-engine lights, fault codes, and other mechanical or electronic issues
- Perform oil changes, filter changes, fluid services, lubrication, and other routine maintenance
- Inspect vehicles for developing maintenance or safety concerns before they result in breakdowns
- Complete DOT-related inspections and repairs as qualified
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns or operational maintenance issues when necessary
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, preventative maintenance, parts, and services performed
- Communicate with management and operations regarding vehicle condition, required repairs, and expected downtime
- Maintain the maintenance shop, tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
- Help establish and maintain preventative maintenance schedules across the company fleets
- Ensure repairs are completed safely and correctly before equipment is returned to service
Fleet
This position supports vehicles and equipment operated across three affiliated companies:
MJM Logistics, LLC
Commercial trucks and equipment supporting warehousing, transportation, and logistics operations.
MJM Express
Class A tractors and trailers used for regional and over-the-road transportation.
Mound
Commercial waste collection vehicles and equipment, including rear-load, front-load, and roll-off trucks.
Because of the variety of equipment within the fleet, this position is well suited for a mechanic who is comfortable diagnosing and repairing different types of heavy-duty commercial vehicles rather than working on the same type of equipment every day.
Qualifications
- Previous diesel or heavy-duty truck maintenance experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel-powered commercial vehicles
- Experience with air brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and drivetrain systems
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems
- Experience using diagnostic equipment and software preferred
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance and identify developing mechanical issues
- Ability to safely operate shop tools and equipment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs based on operational needs
- Dependable attendance and strong attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- CDL Class A or Class B is preferred but not necessarily required
- ASE certifications are a plus but are not required
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the equipment they maintain.
This position is important to all three of our operations. Our trucks have to be available when they are scheduled to run, and we want to identify and correct problems before they become roadside breakdowns or interfere with operations.
The right person will be capable of handling routine preventative maintenance while also being comfortable troubleshooting more complicated mechanical problems when they arise.
