POSITION SUMMARY
The Demo Crew Chief is responsible for leading and supervising demolition crews on residential and commercial restoration and construction projects. This position ensures demolition work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications, company standards, and applicable regulations.
The Crew Chief serves as the primary leader in the field, directing crew members, coordinating daily activities, maintaining job-site organization, and communicating job progress and issues to the Production Manager or Project Manager.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESCrew Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and direct demolition crew members on assigned projects.
- Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and correctly.
- Train and coach crew members on proper demolition techniques, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Monitor crew productivity and work quality.
- Maintain a professional and respectful work environment.
- Communicate staffing, performance, or job-site concerns to management.
Demolition & Production
- Perform and oversee selective demolition, tear-outs, and removal of damaged building materials.
- Safely operate hand and power tools and demolition equipment.
- Perform removal of drywall, flooring, cabinets, insulation, fixtures, and other building materials as directed.
- Follow project scopes, work orders, and instructions from management.
- Protect unaffected areas and contents during demolition.
- Maintain proper containment and dust-control procedures when required.
- Sort, load, and properly dispose of demolition debris.
- Keep the job site clean, organized, and safe throughout the project.
Job-Site Management
- Conduct daily job-site inspections and identify potential hazards.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and materials in good working condition.
- Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, technicians, subcontractors, and other departments as needed.
- Communicate changes, delays, unexpected conditions, or additional work to management promptly.
- Take job-site photos and maintain required documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Follow OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other applicable safety requirements.
- Ensure crew members use appropriate PPE and safe work practices.
- Follow proper procedures for hazardous materials and potentially hazardous job-site conditions.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, property damage, or unsafe conditions to management.
- Attend required safety meetings and training.
Customer Service
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing SERVPRO.
- Treat customers’ homes and property with care and respect.
- Communicate professionally with customers when working on-site.
- Protect customer property from unnecessary damage during demolition.
- Address customer concerns appropriately and notify management when additional assistance is needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in demolition, construction, restoration, or a related field preferred.
- Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, scopes of work, and job instructions.
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to safely operate demolition equipment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass company-required background and driving record checks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires frequent physical activity, including:
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.
- Lifting and carrying materials and equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Working in confined spaces and areas affected by water, fire, smoke, mold, or other property damage.
- Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Use of respirators and other PPE when required.
- Performing physically demanding work for extended periods.
Pay: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour
