About the Role
California Fire Detection is looking for an experienced Data Foreman to join our Fire Alarm & Safety Solutions team.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with a strong background in data, structured cabling, and low-voltage systems who can lead crews and support the installation and operation of fire alarm and life safety systems.
The ideal candidate understands commercial construction, can read plans and schematics, troubleshoot issues in the field, and effectively coordinate with project managers, general contractors, electricians, and other trades.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise data and low-voltage crews on commercial fire alarm and life safety projects
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling and low-voltage systems
- Support the data and network infrastructure associated with fire alarm and life safety systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, fire alarm drawings, riser diagrams, and low-voltage plans
- Coordinate installation activities with project managers, general contractors, electricians, and other trades
- Ensure installations meet project specifications, company standards, and applicable codes
- Troubleshoot wiring, connectivity, and system issues in the field
- Manage daily crew assignments and project priorities
- Ensure proper material, tools, and equipment are available for the crew
- Train and mentor technicians and apprentices
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional jobsite
- Assist with system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and project closeout
- Communicate field conditions, project progress, and issues to project management
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data, structured cabling, low-voltage, fire alarm, or a related field
- Previous foreman or lead technician experience preferred
- Strong understanding of commercial low-voltage and data systems
- Experience with Cat5e/Cat6 and/or fiber
- Ability to read construction drawings, schematics, and low-voltage plans
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable leading a field crew
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of fire alarm or life safety systems is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
