Position Summary
Eastern Industrial Services is seeking an experienced and dependable Commercial/Industrial Mechanical Insulator to join our field operations team. The Mechanical Insulator is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing insulation systems on piping, ductwork, equipment, tanks, vessels, and other mechanical systems in commercial and industrial facilities.
The ideal candidate has hands-on insulation experience, takes pride in quality workmanship, understands jobsite safety requirements, and is comfortable working in a variety of commercial and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install insulation on hot and cold piping, ductwork, tanks, vessels, equipment, and mechanical systems.
- Measure, cut, fit, and install insulation materials according to project specifications.
- Install and finish insulation with appropriate jacketing, vapor barriers, mastics, sealants, and protective coverings.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, layouts, and work instructions.
- Identify the appropriate insulation materials and installation methods for each application.
- Perform removal and replacement of existing insulation when required.
- Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and elevated platforms as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifts, and other equipment used in insulation installation.
- Work effectively with foremen, project managers, mechanics, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades.
- Follow company policies, project requirements, and OSHA/jobsite safety procedures.
- Inspect completed work to ensure proper fit, appearance, and quality.
- Identify potential jobsite hazards and communicate concerns to supervision.
- Complete assigned work within project schedules and productivity expectations.
- Perform other duties related to mechanical insulation as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous commercial or industrial mechanical insulation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanical insulation materials, installation methods, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to accurately measure, lay out, cut, and fit insulation.
- Ability to read basic drawings and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Familiarity with common insulation materials such as fiberglass, mineral wool, cellular glass, elastomeric insulation, and related jacketing systems.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in industrial, commercial, and construction environments.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, climb, kneel, and work in confined or elevated areas.
- Willingness to follow all safety requirements and PPE policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of commercial/industrial mechanical insulation experience.
- Experience with pipe and equipment insulation.
- Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, PVC, or other insulation jacketing systems.
- OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification.
- Experience working from lifts, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Previous experience working on industrial construction or maintenance projects.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
- Work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and platforms.
- Work in hot, cold, dusty, noisy, and industrial environments.
- Wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods.
- Work in confined or difficult-to-access areas when required.
