Job Title: Bricklayer (with Assistant)
Job Description:
The Bricklayer, assisted by a general laborer, will be responsible for constructing and repairing walls, partitions, arches, and other structures using bricks, concrete blocks, and other masonry materials. The role includes laying bricks accurately according to plans, mixing mortar, ensuring level and plumb surfaces, and maintaining safety and quality standards on site.
Key Responsibilities:
Lay bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials to construct or repair structures.
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Mix and apply mortar and grout.
Ensure alignment, level, and plumb of structures using tools such as spirit levels, plumb lines, and laser levels.
Cut and shape bricks as needed using hand tools or machines.
Supervise and direct the assistant in preparing materials, mixing mortar, and cleaning the work area.
Maintain clean and safe working conditions at all times.
Qualifications and Requirements:
For the Bricklayer:
Grade 10 minimum (Grade 12 or equivalent preferred).
Trade Certificate in Bricklaying or Masonry (accredited institution).
Minimum 2–3 years of proven experience in bricklaying on construction sites.
Ability to read technical drawings and follow instructions accurately.
Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to work under pressure.
Physical fitness and stamina.
For the Assistant:
Grade 9 minimum.
Basic knowledge of construction work.
Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy materials.
Willingness to learn and take instruction from the Bricklayer.
No formal qualification required, but prior experience is an advantage.
