Arborist and Equipment Operator Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assisting the Tree Climber or Lift Operator for pruning & removals.
- Ground work such as felling trees, pruning, use of rigging equipment, raking, and leaf blowing.
- Operating chainsaws and other cutting tools.
- Operating the Log Mek, Grapple Truck, Dump Trucks, Wood Chippers and Loaders.
- Participating in daily training.
- Pretripping trucks and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of tying, also specific uses for tree-industry knots.
- Safety for all types of equipment used (Chipper, Stump Grinder, Chain Saw).
- Being proactive and anticipating the needs of the climber and acting promptly with ground support.
- Keeping the work area clear of debris, cleaning up limbs and branches as they are brought down in tree cutting work. Raking the area clear to maintain the safety zone.
- Lining up branches and piling appropriately for loading into the Chipper.
- Keeping tools in the staging area and safe zone.
- Assuring that all lines are kept clear at all times.
- Being attentive to the Climber’s cues throughout the job, always keeping their eyes on the Climber.
- Driving and operating the Log Mek, Grapple Truck and other truck and trailer combinations.
- Manage the staging area and safe zones on the jobsite and laying out the tools for the job.
- Filling equipment with gasoline or diesel while being mindful of safe handling of fuels.
- Chain Saw Chain and Bar Sharpening & Maintenance
- Stump Grinder & Chipper operation & Maintenance
- Riggings used in Tree work- ex: Rope Breaks and Speed Lines, Port-a-wraps
- Setting up appropriate and proper traffic control
- Reading, understanding, and following digital work orders.
- Properly completing Pre-job Hazard forms.
- Properly completing Job Completion/Feedback reports.
- Effectively communicating with team members, sales reps, and customers to accomplish the goal.
- Adhering to safety guidelines.
- Performing work in accordance with best practices, policies, and procedures (OSHA, ANSI z133 and A300 standards).
Arborist and Equipiment Operator Preferred (Optimal) Qualifications and Skills:
- Class A CDL.
- Transportation to and from work.
- Must be coachable.
- Good attitude.
- Work ethic.
- Basic dendrology.
- ISA Certified Arborist preferred.
- Higher education/Degree in forestry or environmental services.
