Requirements:
- Grade 12
- Trade Test / technical qualification preferred
- Proven experience as a Workshop Manager or similar role.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy-duty trucks, industrial machinery and hydraulics.
- Good leadership and staff management skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- May require overtime and standby for breakdowns
Responsibilities:
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of all company trucks and transport vehicles.
- Manage servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance of the processing equipment and associated machinery.
- Ensure all equipment is in safe, reliable working condition at all times.
- Maintain detailed service and repair records for all vehicles and machinery.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for trucks and plant equipment.
- Minimise breakdowns and downtime through proactive planning.
- Monitor and track equipment performance and identify recurring issues.
- Supervise daily workshop activities and workflow.
- Allocate tasks to mechanics, technicians, and workshop staff.
- Ensure work is completed efficiently, within deadlines, and to quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
- Supervise, train, and develop workshop staff.
- Manage attendance, discipline, and performance of workshop employees.
- Ensure staff comply with company policies and safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Enforce safe working practices, especially when working with heavy machinery and processing equipment.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Ensure proper use of PPE at all times.
- Monitor workshop expenses, including parts, labour, and external services.
- Control costs without compromising safety or quality.
- Source and procure parts and services at competitive prices.
- Manage contractors and quotes
- Manage and respond to breakdowns of trucks and plant equipment.
- Ensure quick turnaround times to minimise operational disruptions.
- Coordinate external service providers when required.
- Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and comply with legal requirements.
- Maintain records for inspections, licenses, and compliance audits.
- Prepare reports on workshop performance, downtime, and maintenance costs.
