Polkadot Digital is a Johannesburg-based digital marketing agency offering web design, graphic design, Google Ads, social media and digital marketing services to a diverse range of clients.
We are looking for a talented WordPress Web Designer / Developer to join our team and take responsibility for building, maintaining and improving websites for our clients.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys both the creative and technical side of websites and can confidently take a website from a brief through to a polished, responsive final product.
About the Role
As a WordPress Web Designer / Developer, you will be responsible for developing, designing, customising and maintaining WordPress websites.
You will work closely with our graphic designers, digital marketing team and clients to create websites that are not only visually appealing, but also functional, responsive, user-friendly and aligned with the client’s business objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Designing, developing and maintaining WordPress websites
- Building responsive websites across desktop, tablet and mobile
- Working with WordPress themes, plugins and page builders
- Customising WordPress websites using HTML, CSS and PHP
- Installing, configuring and troubleshooting WordPress plugins
- Developing and maintaining WooCommerce websites
- Troubleshooting and resolving website issues
- Optimising websites for performance, usability and responsiveness
- Working from design briefs and translating creative concepts into functional websites
- Making website amendments and implementing client feedback
- Collaborating with graphic designers and the digital marketing team
- Communicating with clients where required to understand website requirements
- Managing multiple website projects and meeting agreed deadlines
- Keeping websites secure, updated and functioning correctly
Experience & Skills
Essential:
- 1-2+ years of hands-on WordPress experience preferred
- Strong WordPress knowledge
- Good knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Working knowledge of PHP
- Experience working with WordPress plugins
- Experience building responsive websites
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of website UX and user-friendly design
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Advantageous:
- Shopify experience
- Experience with website hosting, domains and DNS
- Experience with website speed optimisation
- Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator experience
- Basic SEO knowledge
