Job Overview
The Tool Store Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of the tool store area, including inventory control, procurement, and providing technical support to Programming, Tool making, and Presetting departments.
The role ensures inventory availability, cost efficiency, and adherence to production schedules while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Oversee the control, storage, and movement of tools, jigs, gauges, fixtures, and consumables, ensuring accurate stock levels and minimal downtime for production.
Maintain both consignment and non-consignment inventory, using digital tools to track and optimize stock levels.
Obtain competitive quotes, place requisitions, and monitor order progress to ensure timely delivery of required items.
Ensure department budgets are met by making cost-effective purchasing decisions and tracking expenditure.
Ensure gauges, jigs, and fixtures are designed, manufactured, and available to meet specific production requirements.
Coordinate with Programming, Tool making, and Presetting teams to provide technical support and resolve tooling issues.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in line with company standards and the company Behavioral Safety Program.
Implement safety rules and regulations, conduct safety audits, and actively promote a positive safety culture.
Maintain and update a comprehensive database for jigs, fixtures, programs, and other tools, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility.
Supervise assigned staff, delegating tasks effectively and fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability.
Conduct regular training and mentoring to develop technical and professional skills within the team.
Identify opportunities to improve inventory management processes, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency.
Participate in lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives to optimize workflows and workspace organization.
Qualifications/Experience and Knowledge Required
Diploma or certification in Supply Chain Management, Inventory Control or Mechanical Engineering
5+ years experience in inventory management, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Proficiency in digital inventory management systems and familiarity with lean principles
Strong understanding of tooling and manufacturing processes.
Sound Knowledge of CNC machining, Manual machining and CNC Programming will be an advantage
