The School of Mining Engineering is one of the leading mining engineering schools globally and one of the seven schools comprising the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The School is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Technical Assistant.
Brief Description
Duties: The successful applicant will provide support to both staff and students. He/she will be responsible for:
General technical functions of the School’s laboratories and facilities.
General upkeep of the School’s laboratories and related equipment.
Transport duties on behalf of the School.
Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of School, the School’s Principal Technician, or the School’s Administration Manager.
Requirements:
Minimum of a Matric qualification and a driver’s licence; any post-Matric qualifications are a definite advantage. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in general technical workshop or laboratory duties is preferred. The applicant should have basic knowledge of MS Office. The applicant should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently and under pressure at peak times.
