Survey Programmer Jobs in City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa at Potentiam Ltd

Title: Survey Programmer

Company: Potentiam Ltd

Location: City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Potentiam is an embedded offshoring partner that helps mid-sized businesses grow by building dedicated, office-based teams across South Africa, Romania, India and Brazil.

Our model combines the control of insourcing with the commercial advantages of offshoring. Clients retain day-to-day management of their teams while Potentiam manages recruitment, employment, HR, payroll, facilities, IT infrastructure and employee support.

We work with organisations across technology, financial services, professional services, healthcare, engineering, energy and business services, supporting functions including technology, finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR and customer support.

The Opportunity

Join a market-insights team that builds reliable, engaging online surveys for international research projects. You will translate questionnaires into accurate, respondent-friendly surveys in Forsta Surveys (Decipher), test complex logic and deliver clean data outputs while working closely with project managers and data-processing colleagues.

This role suits a hands-on survey programmer who can manage several concurrent builds, work independently and use sound judgement when questionnaire requirements are unclear. Occasional client communication may be required, with support from the project team.

What you will do:

Essential

  • 3-5 years’ experience scripting or programming online surveys in a market-research agency, research operations team or specialist survey-programming environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Forsta Surveys / Decipher, or strong experience on a comparable platform such as Qualtrics, Forsta Plus (Confirmit), Askia, Alchemer or QuestionPro with the ability to learn Decipher quickly.
  • Practical knowledge of survey logic: skips and routing, loops, randomisation and rotation, quotas, piping, validation and custom question types.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, plus basic-to-intermediate JavaScript used in survey scripting.
  • Experience testing surveys, troubleshooting defects and validating data before launch and delivery.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and the ability to work independently across multiple deadline-driven projects.
  • Clear written and verbal English communication with project managers, data processors and technical colleagues.

Advantageous, not essential

  • Python scripting or other automation experience.
  • Unix/Linux command-line familiarity.
  • API integrations, server-to-server connections or automated data-transfer workflows.
  • Experience with more than one survey platform or with market-research data processing.
  • Direct client communication or consultative survey-design experience.

How success will be measured

  • Accurate survey builds that match the questionnaire and pass internal/client QA.
  • On-time delivery across several concurrent projects, with risks escalated early.
  • Reliable routing, quotas and data outputs with minimal post-launch defects.
  • Positive collaboration with project management and data-processing teams.
  • Continuous improvement in reusable scripts, templates and delivery practices.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a small, ambitious and growing business where your contribution will be visible and genuinely matter.

You’ll have the autonomy to own your projects, build meaningful client relationships and work closely with different areas of the business rather than operating within a narrow project management function.

For someone who enjoys combining project delivery, problem-solving, client relationships and commercial thinking, this offers the chance to play an important role in the next stage of the company’s growth.

If you’re an experienced Project Manager who takes pride in delivering excellent work, enjoys working directly with clients and thrives in a fast-moving environment, we’d love to hear from you.
