Job Purpose
The role will oversee Payroll Administrators, manage payroll compliance, support audits, and ensure all payroll-related processes are executed in accordance with Premier's policies, legislation and best practice. Reporting to the Group Payroll Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising payroll operations, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of both Salaried and Wage payroll across the Business.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide guidance to Payroll Administrators to ensure efficient payroll operations.
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of monthly payrolls, including salary and wage payrolls..
- Oversee the processing of the salary payroll and support other payroll functions as required.
- Verify and approve payroll inputs, including new appointments, terminations, promotions, transfers, leave, overtime, deductions, and allowances.
- Maintain employee data confidentiality and protect payroll operation by keeping information confidential and exercise extreme discretion.
- Record and maintain payroll information by collecting and processing data in a timely and accurate manner.
- Oversee third-party payments, including pension/provident funds, medical aid, garnishees, and statutory deductions.
- Sign off on employee bank detail changes and other critical payroll amendments.
- Support internal and external payroll audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement controls to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and payroll information.
Experience and Qualification
- Payroll Diploma or Payroll Degree or a bachelor's degree (Finance)
- 5 -7 years' Experience in Payroll Administration
- Minimum 2 years' supervisor or team leadership experience
- Proven experience processing high-volume payrolls.
- Experience with payroll legislation, tax requirement, and statutory compliance
- Experience working with Time & Attendance Systems
- Exposure to payroll audits and reconciliations.

- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Sound knowledge of payroll processes, controls and legislations
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Strong planning, organising and prioritisation skills
- Proficiency in payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
- High level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
