Role Description

The Stress Engineer performs structural analysis including stress, fracture, and fatigue assessments. Builds finite element models, performs analyses, assesses margins and life usage. Works closely with designers to develop and improve designs, improve margins, and mitigate technical risks. Works with and helps define structural requirements for vendors. Assesses structural test data and verification of requirements.

Qualifications

1)       Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering discipline required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.

2)       Experience:

  • Experience in the deference industry will be an added advantage.
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace programs.
  • 5+ years of experience with structural analysis methods and repair principles (e.g., fatigue and corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques, damage tolerance methods used in maintenance programs).
  • Relevant experience using computer aided design (CAD) software.
  • Relevant experience using FEM software to perform structural analysis on military vehicle or aircraft components or structures.

Key Performance Areas

  •  Performs detailed structural analysis to determine structural integrity and to optimise the designs, using classical techniques and commercial analysis tools.
  • Provide inputs to establish maintenance/inspection programs.
  • Prepare and present design documentation for review, approval and acceptance.        
  • Make use of design standards and applicable airworthiness regulations to show compliance with customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Check and approve documentation within your scope of expertise.           
  • Provide guidance regarding design choices, options and implications.
  • Provide technical support at design reviews.
  •  Guides structural design and configuration development.
  •  Researches and prepares data to support definition of structural design requirements.
  •  Research new technology applications, new product designs and structural life enhancement concepts, to improve products at the program level.
  • Develops test plans, conducts pre-test analysis, monitors tests, analyses, and correlates test data, and documents results, to develop and certify structural concepts, investigates failures, and develops material allowances.
  • Interact professionally and promptly with both internal and external stakeholders to provide necessary feedback and support.
  • Seek out and participate in both formal and informal training opportunities to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Explore and share innovative methods, technologies, products, or services that can benefit the organization, division, or department.
  • Contribute significantly to the improvement of the company's engineering capabilities and the quality of its products and services.
