Full Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Stock Controller is responsible for ensuring stock accuracy, and maintaining proper stock rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out). They will oversee stock receiving, capturing, storage, and tracking, ensuring that inventory is stored correctly and efficiently. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities:1. Stock Management & Control
Ensure accurate stock counting and perform regular cycle counts and stock takes.
Receive and capture stock into the system.
Ensure all stock movements are recorded and discrepancies investigated.
Monitor and enforce FIFO (First In, First Out) principles to minimize waste and expiry.
Maintain correct storage locations and ensure stock is stored in the designated areas.
Ensure stock accuracy in the system versus physical stock on hand.
2. Receiving deliveries
Check and verify stock received against invoices and delivery notes.
Ensure goods received are in good condition and meet quality standards.
Coordinate with the picking and dispatch teams to ensure efficient order fulfillment.
3. Stock KPI & Reporting
Track key stock performance indicators (KPIs), including stock accuracy, shrinkage, stock turnover, and wastage.
Generate stock reports and highlight low stock, overstock, or obsolete stock issues.
Work closely with suppliers, buyers, and warehouse staff to maintain optimal stock levels.
Investigate stock discrepancies and report any stock loss, theft, or damages.
4. Compliance & Housekeeping
Ensure the warehouse follows health and safety regulations.
Maintain clean and organized storage to optimize space and efficiency.
Ensure temperature-sensitive products are stored correctly to maintain quality.
Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding stock management.
Required Skills & Qualifications: Technical Skills:
Experience in stock control, warehouse, or inventory management, preferably in FMCG or retail grocery stores.
Proficiency in inventory management systems (POS systems).
Strong understanding of FIFO, stock rotation, and cold chain.
Ability to capture and process stock data accurately.
Knowledge of receiving, picking, and dispatching procedures.
Soft Skills:
Attention to detail – Accuracy in counting, capturing, and managing stock.
Problem-solving skills – Ability to investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
Organizational skills – Ability to keep the warehouse efficient and structured.
Communication skills – Work closely with suppliers, warehouse teams, and management.
Team player – Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Numeracy skills – Comfortable working with stock numbers, weights, and measurements.
Experience & Education:
Minimum Matric/Grade 12 (Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Inventory Management is an advantage).
2-3 years’ experience in stock control, inventory, or warehousing (preferably in FMCG or grocery retail).
Working Hours:
Monday – Saturday, with potential for weekend or overtime work, depending on business needs.
Ability to work in shift patterns, especially during high-demand periods.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: R7Â 500,00 – R8Â 000,00 per month
