Our client in Centurion seeks to employ a Stewardship Assistant on a 12-month contract.
POSITION INFO :
Purpose
The Stewardship Assistant will ensure responsible management, including all compliance obligations, seed treatments, and traits from their inception through to their ultimate use and discontinuation.
Organization
The RSA Stewardship Assistant will report to the EMEA Stewardship Leader and receive functional guidance from this leader.
Key responsibilities :
General Stewardship across platforms
Set RSA Stewardship priorities with the AME Stewardship Leader and Country leader, resulting in a Country Stewardship Strategic plan for both Seed / Biotech business with tracked actions.
Promote Stewardship best practices in RSA, including IRM, HRM, WRM, and IPM.
Manage stewardship training programs internally and externally, serving as an expert on stewardship matters.
Support country teams in complying with regulatory requirements, internal stewardship standards, contract stewardship clauses, and legal product registration requirements such as adverse effects reporting or risk mitigation measures.
Assist in preparing for stewardship reviews of portfolios and country audits, including Excellence Through Stewardship (ETS) for biotech seeds, and provide post-audit support.
Ensure implementation of compliance and incident response processes, linking to emergency response and complaints management, and act as the primary contact for stewardship incidents in RSA.
Provide trial compliance support for IFS trials and GMO regulated trials.
Support the implementation of MITT / SAP systems across all platforms.
Understand stewardship obligations in licensing trade agreements, guide third-party contractors on in-field compliance monitoring, and submit monitoring reports to licensors.
Guide the team on inclusion of stewardship obligations in licensing agreements and monitor licensee compliance.
Develop IRM strategy, including a monitoring plan, damage guidelines, investigation protocols, and compliance assessment plans in coordination with the Global IRM Stewardship Lead.
Create and maintain Technology Use Agreements, Product Use Guides, and training templates; provide training to third parties/licensees.
Maintain contracts and assessment documents for refuge field monitoring as part of permit conditions.
Support third-party distributors like Limagrain and Agricol on stewardship compliance and training.
Liaise with organizations such as Crop Life, SANSOR, Africa Bio, IRAC, ISAAA, and ETS.
Qualifications
At least 5 years of experience in the agricultural business, preferably in seeds.
Degree in agriculture or biology from a recognized university.
Willingness to travel as required.
