JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and Responsibilities:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Software Test Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining automated test solutions to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of enterprise-grade software platforms.
This role is ideal for a hands-on automation specialist with strong experience in Playwright, solid test management discipline using Jira and Zephyr, and a passion for embedding quality into Agile delivery teams.
The duties and responsibilities of the Software Test Automation Engineer include the following:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test solutions for web applications using Playwright (JavaScript)
- Develop automated functional, regression, smoke, and integration test suites
- Create and maintain API automated tests using Postman (collections, environments, assertions)
- Ensure automated test scripts are reusable, maintainable, stable, and aligned with coding standards
- Execute automation as part of Agile sprint cycles and release regressions
- Analyse automation failures and collaborate with developers to identify root causes
- Log, track, retest, and verify defects using Jira, with clear evidence and reproducible steps
- Maintain test artefacts including Automated test cases, Test execution results, Test cycles and traceability (Zephyr or similar)
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (with DevOps support)
- Contribute to improving test coverage, execution time, and automation effectiveness
- Perform manual and exploratory testing where automation is not feasible
- Validate functional and non-functional requirements against business expectations
- Actively participate in: Sprint planning, Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives
- Support audit-ready testing documentation and reporting
- Stay current with automation trends, tooling, and best practices
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
Minimum Requirements:
- Post-matric qualification in: Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- ISTQB Foundation Certification
Preferably, In Addition To The Above:
- Degree or Diploma with a focus on: Software Development, Information Systems, Engineering, ISTQB Agile Tester or Test Automation certification
- Financial Services or Insurance-related certification (advantageous, not mandatory)
Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in software testing
- At least 2 years hands-on experience in test automation
- Proven experience using: Playwright for web automation, JavaScript for test scripting
- Experience with API testing using Postman
- Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery environments
- Exposure to defect tracking and test management tools (Jira, Zephyr or similar)
Preferably, In Addition To The Above:
- Experience in financial services or insurance systems
- Exposure to: CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins), Source control (Git)
- Experience with: Test data management, Environment coordination
- Exposure to non-functional testing: Performance, Security
- Experience testing enterprise-grade or integration-heavy platforms
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Minimum Requirements:
- Strong hands-on competence with: Playwright (JavaScript), Visual Studio Code
- Solid understanding of: Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), SDLC and quality gates
- Ability to: Design modular, reusable automated test frameworks, write stable selectors and browser-based tests
- API testing skills including REST concepts, HTTP methods, Status codes, Request/response validation
- Defect management expertise: Identification, Reproduction, Retesting
- Familiarity with: Jira, Zephyr (or equivalent test management tools)
- Ability to analyse test results and produce clear testing feedback
Preferably, In Addition To The Above:
- CI/CD integration knowledge for automated tests
- Experience with: Test reporting dashboards, Code reviews for test automation
- Exposure to: Performance testing tools, Security testing tools, , Static code analysis (basic understanding)
- Knowledge of: Automation best practices, Page Object Model / similar patterns
- Experience automating complex workflows and integration
