MES is a national non-profit organisation, fighting the war against poverty, human suffering and exclusion. We feel blessed to have operations in multiple centres in our country including Kempton Park, Hillbrow, Cape Town and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Our work consists of both relief interventions as well as holistic training programmes that deliver long-term results for the poorest of the poor.

Our multi-disciplinary therapeutic team (comprising, amongst others, of occupational therapists, social workers and social auxiliary workers) works alongside our work team managers to create sustainable employment opportunities in our cities. These opportunities provide rich learning environments where beneficiaries receive the opportunity to acquire new skills, valuable work experience, resilience and an increased independence which sets them up for long-term success.

Cape Town has about 50 staff located in 3 locations.The individual will report directly to the Work Readiness Manager and will join the Work Readiness team. Supervising fellow staff members as well as working with clients directly, the successful candidate will have a wonderful opportunity to use their professional skills and experiences to strengthen our intervention programmes for people who have experienced homelessness.

This position is for a full day, in-person Social Worker

Key Areas of Responsibility include:

· Develop IDP with the clients

· Conduct therapeutic intervention to MES Work Readiness clients

· Facilitate group sessions for Work Readiness levels

· Work in a multi-disciplinary team

· Apply to community-based services on behalf of the clients such as rehabilitation centers, community housing and any other referrals required by the client

· Conduct family preservation services to MES clients

· Network and collaborate with other stakeholders to support the client holistically

· Keep records of services rendered (compile stats and process notes)

· Supervise Social Work Students and SAW

Qualifications & Experience

● BA Social Work (required)

● Driver’s license (required)

● Strong leadership skills & managerial experience (required)

● Good communication and active listening skills

● 5 years’ experience working within the addiction and homelessness fields (preferred)
