The IT Shared Services, Governance and Risk Management, as part of the IT Division at Stellenbosch University (SU), is seeking a motivated and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Service Management Configuration Specialist. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about delivering excellent user support, facilitating training, and ensuring effective use of our IT Service Management and Development tools, including Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence as an anchor for the Service Management Practice. The position also offers opportunities to contribute to IT Service Management (ITSM) research and development, technical risk management, and security initiatives.

  • Duties/Pligte

    • Providing first-line support to users of Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Jira Asset Management, Confluence, Dashboard Hub Pro for Jira, and Dashboard Hub for Confluence.
    • Delivering onboarding and ongoing training sessions to new and existing users of ITSM tools.
    • Creating and maintaining user guides, process documentation, FAQs, and knowledge base content to support effective tool usage and process understanding.
    • Supporting the configuration of simple workflows, request types, dashboards, and asset schemas under supervision.
    • Communicating system updates, best practices, and guidelines to end-users.
    • Escalating complex technical issues to senior team members as required.
    • Assisting with ITSM research and development activities, including evaluating new features, tools, and best practices, and participating in pilot projects.
    • Supporting technical risk management by helping to identify, document, and report risks in service management processes, and assisting with risk assessments and reporting under supervision.
    • Contributing to basic security awareness and compliance activities related to ITSM tools, including helping implement and communicate security protocols and monitoring compliance.
  • Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

    • NQF Level 6 in an IT or IT related field with three years' experience in IT related to the service management, OR NQF Level 5 in a related IT field with five years' experience in IT related to service management.
    • ITIL certification.
    • Proven experience with administering Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence (Cloud or Server/DC).
    • Hands-on experience with Jira Asset Management (Insight) for asset and configuration management.
    • Experience with Dashboard Hub Pro for Jira and Dashboard Hub for Confluence for creating advanced dashboards and reports.
    • Strong understanding of JQL (Jira Query Language) for building filters, dashboards, and reports.
    • Experience with configuring Jira workflows, custom fields, screens, permissions, and automation rules.
    • Familiarity with Jira Service Management SLAs, request types, queues, and portal customisation.
    • Experience in managing Confluence spaces, page templates, and user permissions.
    • Working knowledge of Atlassian Marketplace apps (e.g. ScriptRunner, Refined, Insight, eazyBI).
    • Handling user and group management for projects and spaces.
  • Recommendation/Aanbeveling

    • Familiarity with ITIL principles or Agile methodologies.
    • Interest in developing technical skills and pursuing Atlassian certifications.
    • Willingness to learn about ITSM research and development, technical risk management, and security best practices.
    • Familiarity with IT security frameworks and risk assessment methodologies.
    • Experience with service management research and development, technical risk management, and security practices in an IT environment is highly desirable.
