SUMMARY:

North Coast area – KwaZulu Natal: seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Sugarcane Farm Manager to oversee all aspects of sugarcane production on a large-scale commercial farm. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning, operational execution, and team leadership to ensure optimal yield, quality, and profitability.

POSITION INFO:

MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS

  • Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related field
  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in sugarcane farming, with at least 3 years in a senior/management role
  • Strong knowledge of sugarcane production systems in KwaZulu-Natal
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Experience with budgeting, planning, and cost control
  • Proficiency in isiZulu
  • Valid driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Planning, organising and controlling cane production activities in collaboration with staff and contractors by managing resources to achieve agreed targets
  • Develop and implement crop management plans to maximise yield and ratoon longevity
  • Oversee labour teams and contractors, ensuring productivity and compliance with labour laws
  • Monitor and manage input costs (fertiliser, chemicals, fuel, labour)
  • Ensure that all farming operations are conducted according to agricultural best practices
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on production, costs, and performance
  • Monitor and control operational expenditure and reporting on variances against budget
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Liaise with mills, agronomists, and suppliers
  • Drive continuous improvement and adoption of modern farming technologies
