Job Description
Purpose
Support the Retail Compliance team managing Private Banking and Wealth portfolios, operating in a high-pressure environment to mitigate regulatory, conduct, and reputational risks. Responsibilities include implementing compliance frameworks, setting standards, monitoring adherence, training, and providing strategic advice, all while maintaining independence as a second line of defense.
Key Responsibilities
Mandatory Responsibilities
Operate at a leadership level, influencing business strategy
Deep understanding of products, customer segments, and market dynamics
Translate regulatory compliance into competitive advantage
Manage conflicts assertively, maintaining regulatory boundaries
Understand the regulatory landscape and possess regulatory expertise relevant to the business
Promote good governance and control practices
Retail Business Management
Assist the Head of Compliance in executing strategic plans
Enhance compliance methodologies and risk management strategies
Compliance Advisory
Promote ethical behavior aligned with bank values
Communicate compliance roles and objectives effectively
Engage regularly with stakeholders and regulators
Provide timely compliance advice and risk reporting
Develop and execute compliance training programs
Policy Deployment
Evaluate and implement new regulatory requirements
Keep the business informed of regulatory updates
Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary contact for regulatory interactions
Communicate policies and manage stakeholder engagement
Monitor and assess regulatory risks continuously
Governance
Participate in risk and governance forums
Report on regulatory risks and compliance status
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or related field
5-10 years of relevant experience in business, product, or channel management
Knowledge & Skills
In-depth knowledge of relevant products and regulatory requirements in South Africa
Ability to analyze and interpret legislation and regulations
Effective engagement with regulators and industry groups
Understanding of compliance governance and best practices
