Job Purpose:
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the overall financial and contractual management of building construction projects from pre-contract through to final account. The successful candidate will ensure value for money, cost control, and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans, and forecasts.
• Conduct detailed measurement and valuation of works (on-site and from drawings).
• Manage procurement processes including tendering, negotiation, and contract administration.
• Monitor and report on project costs and commercial performance.
• Prepare interim valuations, final accounts, and cost reports.
• Advise on contractual matters and manage claims and variations.
• Collaborate with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to ensure alignment on financial matters.
• Ensure compliance with building contracts, legal requirements, and company policies.
• Mentor junior quantity surveyors and assist in team development.
Qualifications and
Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
• Professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS, PrQS) is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 15 years’ proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a strong background in building construction.
• Extensive experience working for a main contractor.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-value projects.
Skills and
Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., JBCC, NEC, FIDIC).
• Excellent financial, analytical, and negotiation skills.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational and planning abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., CCS Candy, Build Smart, MS Excel).
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
