Senior Protection Engineer Jobs in Johannesburg, South Africa at Permanent
Responsibilities:
Design, testing and commissioning of power system protection, control and automation schemes
Protection settings calculation and configuration logics design
Mentoring and coaching of junior staff
Provide technical support to BD and Sales
Testing of protection, control and automation schemes in factory and site
Provide support for GE / IST, A-eberle protection, control and automation products
Follow up on technical questions from customers
Evaluate customer inquiries and technical feasibility of projects
Support development of sales and marketing material
Contribute towards sales plan and target setting
Understanding customer’s requirement and advise on most appropriate technical solution
Designs review
Experience required:
Function related experience: 7-10 Years’ experience with substation protection and control including execution of projects
Good understanding of Engineering principles
Technical knowledge of GE protection devices
Proficiency in Engineering design software:
AutoCAD, ZWCAD, Microstation
Ability to analyse complex problems, interpret operational needs and develop integrated solutions
Strong technical report writing skills
Ability to manage and interact with subcontractors and suppliers
Computer literacy with good working knowledge of relevant OEM product software and power systems simulation packages:
Dig Silent Power factory, Matlab Simulink, Power Sim
Ability to adapt and learn reasonably fast
Ability to effectively communicate with team members and customers
Excellent understanding and interpretation of project specifications, drawings, single line diagrams and data sheets
Excellent understanding of electrical network load flow and fault levels study
Excellent knowledge of protection settings discrimination study
Basic knowledge of tele control systems – SCADA
Leadership and management skills
Qualifications:
Matric Certificate
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) Diploma/Degree
Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineer
Post graduate qualification in Electrical Engineering
Business Administration related course
