ABOUT US
Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Tjungu (together) team provides support, advocacy and care coordination to ngaltutjara tjuta – people with disabilities, elderly people, and their carers & families. Tjungu was chosen as the title for the program to reflect that aged, disability, and mental health issues often overlap and require workers and families to meet these challenges together. Tjungu philosophy and principles support the rights of older Anangu people and people with disabilities to live in their community, maintaining family and relationships, and continuing spiritual and physical connections with country.
ABOUT THE ROLE
NPY Women’s Council (NPYWC) will work in partnership with Anangu elders living in the NPY Lands and Territory Palliative Care Central Australia (TPC CA) to identify and strengthen ways to support elders in discussing their care worries and planning for their wishes as they age. In the remote Aboriginal communities of Central Australia, traditional beliefs and cultural worldviews are common, often tempered by contact with mainstream services.
Discussing palliative care and understanding the wishes of someone who is dying or has died can be stressful for families. This project aims to strengthen systems and develop culturally appropriate resources, co-designed with older Aboriginal Australians, to assist with informed decisions about end-of-life care and advanced care planning.
ABOUT YOU
You will have tertiary qualifications and/or a minimum of three years’ experience in health, community services, or a related field. You should have the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment, including collaborating with other NPYWC staff and following guidance.
We offer a generous remuneration package including an above award salary, salary packaging benefits, 32 days (pro-rata) of annual leave, 15 days (pro-rata) of personal leave, use of a company vehicle for remote travel, and travel allowance.
