Overall Purpose Of The Role
This roles reports the Head of Payments Support. The purpose of this role is to oversee and authorise all local and foreign payments, foreign exchange transactions, and investment trade transactions in compliance with internal processes and regulatory requirements. The Senior payments Support Officer ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all banking and forex operations while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
Principal Elements And Accountabilities
Payment and Transaction Oversight
- Authorise local client payments in accordance with internal policies and controls.
- Review, verify, and authorize foreign exchange (forex) payments in compliance with internal procedures.
- Authorize Business Central payments ensuring accuracy and alignment with internal standards.
- Execute local and offshore investment trades in line with established processes.
Foreign Exchange and Investment Execution
- Book and execute foreign exchange rates on behalf of clients.
- Execute investment rates and manage all associated administrative and operational tasks.
- Engage directly with management companies (mancos) and brokers regarding investment execution and settlements.
- Ensure accurate completion and verification of Balance of Payments (BOP) forms and related documentation.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure full adherence to exchange control regulations and internal compliance standards.
- Oversee accurate record-keeping and documentation of all authorized transactions.
- Identify and escalate operational risks or irregularities where necessary.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with banks, custodians, fund managers, and clients to ensure smooth transaction processing.
- Provide guidance to junior staff or associates within the team where required.
Qualifications And Experience
Experience Required:
- Foreign exchange and exchange control background gained within a local bank is essential.
- Payment execution and forex dealing experience are required.
- Investment trade experience would be advantageous but not mandatory.
- Previous exposure to private client or private wealth environments would be beneficial.
Skills And Knowledge
- Proficiency in online banking platforms (essential).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Sound understanding of exchange control regulations, non-resident banking, and related applications.
- Ability to submit exchange control applications to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
- Good grasp of market principles, exchange control rates, and financial instruments.
- High attention to detail with proven accuracy and quality control skills.
