Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences has a growing reputation as a leading educational provider for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences is seeking to permanently appoint a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer within the School of Nursing.
Please note that this vacancy is an appointment with the Department of Health and the University of the Western Cape. The successful appointment is under the service and employment conditions of the University.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Teaching and learning at an undergraduate and postgraduate diploma level.
- Supervision of Masters level research if he/she holds a PhD.
- Participate in research programmes.
- Develop industry and academic partnerships.
- Engage in community outreach.
- Responsible for administrative duties within the department, faculty and the university.
Minimum Requirements
- PhD
- Master’s degree in in Nursing or a Master's in a related Health discipline.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health Nurse/Psychiatric Nurse and Nurse Educator, Assessor and Moderator.
- 3-5 years’ experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching.
- Minimum of 4 peer-reviewed and or/ accredited research outputs.
- Completion of at least 2 Masters or 6 Honours students as main supervisor.
- Evidence of research activity- grant funding, scholarly networks.
- Participation in collaborative research projects.
- Sustained involvement in community engagement initiatives.
- Involvement in institutional service- programme coordination, faculty involvement and scholarly membership.
- Active engagement in academic or professional communities.
An Added Advantage
- An additional qualification in either Primary Care Nursing, Mental Health Nursing or Health Services Management.
- Recognition of teaching excellence (awards, commendations).
Submission of a copy of your Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health Nurse/Psychiatric Nurse and Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse Educator is a necessity.
Please note that this position is part of the Joint Establishment, which refers to a formal collaborative agreement between the University and the Provincial Health Department.
The appointed individual will be expected to engage in both academic responsibilities and service delivery, as per the collaborative agreement with the Provincial Health Department. This includes contributing to the clinical service delivery component, in line with the requirements of the service delivery model.
