Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The position is needed to perform laboratory work and chemical analysis for external short-term contracts within the Ecoficient Consultants and Services (ECS) group of the CoE in Carbon-based fuels. Funding of the position is solely from external projects.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory work
Preparing samples, maintaining equipment, and performing experimental work of external projects.
Development of techniques
Literature searches and own development of techniques to do specific analysis and interpretation of the results.
Attendance of meetings
Preparing and providing feedback at the weekly feedback meeting.
Reports
Assist with compiling reports for external projects.
Minimum Requirements
A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Chemical Engineering / Chemistry – MSc or MEng.
A minimum of five (5) years’ GC-MS; GC; BET experience in running experiments; interpreting results; and developing new or better methods.
A minimum of five (5) years’ TGA experience in running experiments and interpreting results.
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the analysis using coal and solid biomass waste material – run experiments and interpret results.
Key Functional/Technical Competencies
Skills to operate and interpret results using the following equipment: GC-MS, GC, BET and TGA.
Report writing skills
Oral presentation skills.
Key Behavioural Competencies
Interpersonal skills.
Effective time management.
