Senior Fire Technician Jobs in Johannesburg Metropolitan Area at FS-Systems

Title: Senior Fire Technician

Company: FS-Systems

Location: Johannesburg Metropolitan Area

About the Job

A fire system is only as reliable as the installation behind it. It takes more than technical knowledge. It requires someone who can read the drawings, understand what needs to happen on-site, guide the team and ensure the work is completed correctly.

FS Systems is looking for a Senior Fire Technician to lead fire detection and suppression installation, commissioning and maintenance across our project sites.

This is not an office-based or supervisory-only position.

You’ll work with your team, completing installations while providing the technical direction needed to keep the work safe, accurate and on schedule.

A critical part of this role is the ability to read, understand and execute work from isometric drawings. You must be able to translate a drawing into the correct installation on-site, identify where site conditions differ from the approved design and guide your team accordingly.

If you’re a hands-on technician who can lead from the front, solve technical problems and take responsibility for the quality of your team’s work, we’d like to meet you.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead technicians during fire detection and suppression installations while remaining actively involved in the work
  • Read and interpret isometric drawings, installation plans and technical specifications
  • Use approved drawings to plan and execute pipework and system layouts
  • Install, commission, test and hand over fire detection and suppression systems
  • Monitor workmanship, progress, quality and safety across project sites
  • Identify and report differences between approved drawings and actual site conditions
  • Complete preventative maintenance, fault-finding and repairs
  • Train and support technicians and address performance or quality concerns
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular feedback to the project team
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers when required

What You Bring

  • Strong practical experience in fire detection and fire suppression installations
  • Proven ability to read, understand and execute work from isometric drawings
  • Experience leading and supervising technical teams on-site
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to complete installation work alongside the team
  • Experience with commissioning, maintenance and fault-finding
  • Ability to identify installation deviations and recommend practical solutions
  • Ability to use hand and power tools for mounting and assembly
  • Good communication, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • National Diploma or equivalent technical qualification
  • Industry experience in fire detection and fire suppression systems
  • Valid SAQCC Fire Detection or Gas Commissioner registration
  • Ability to demonstrate practical competency in reading and interpreting isometric drawings
