This Sector is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of a Senior Engineer: Wastewater and Water Treatment.

Core Purpose
Lead and deliver professional consulting engineering services related to water and wastewater treatment infrastructure.
Deliver innovative and sustainable solutions, including water reuse and reclamation, to address growing water scarcity challenges.
This includes feasibility studies, planning, design, procurement, construction supervision, commissioning and project close-out for water and wastewater treatment works as well as tertiary treatment for reclamation across South Africa and Africa.
Also included are:
Support business development.
Develop, maintain and manage client relationships.
Support marketing initiatives through presentation of papers at conferences and writing articles for publication.
Mentoring of junior staff within multidisciplinary project environments.
Provide technical leadership in stated fields of water and wastewater treatment.
Key Performance Areas
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Leading or supporting water and wastewater treatment projects from concept to commissioning.
Develop and implement water reuse strategies for municipal, industrial, or agricultural applications.
Evaluate and design advanced treatment technologies for reuse, including membrane filtration, UV disinfection, ozonation, and advanced oxidation processes.
Provide technical support for the permitting, design, and implementation of water reclamation systems.
Stay abreast of national and international standards, policies, and best practices related to water reuse.
Conducting feasibility assessments and process evaluations for treatment systems.
Develop design reports, operating philosophies, produce process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and specifications.
Oversee preparation of drawings and tender documentation for treatment works.
Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies and treatment methods.
Provide technical support during procurement and construction.
Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to specifications and quality.
Perform process commissioning and optimisation.
Interface with clients, attending progress and technical meetings.
Prepare project budgets and manage scope, time, and cost performance.
Compile technical reports, proposals, and bid documents.
Review and approve design documentation by junior staff.
Contribute to business development and client engagement.
Support knowledge transfer and the development of young professionals.
Develop profile of self and GIBB as industry experts through writing and presentation of papers and writing of articles.
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Job Requirements
Qualification:
BSc/BEng in Chemical, Civil, or Process Engineering.
Master’s degree in Water, Environmental or Process Engineering will be an advantage.
Professional Registration (PrEng) with ECSA required.
Experience:
15–20 years’ relevant experience in water and wastewater treatment projects.
Demonstrated expertise in both greenfield and brownfield projects.
Hands-on experience in the design, specification, and commissioning of:
Water Treatment Plants (conventional and advanced);
Wastewater Treatment Plants (activated sludge, MBR, BNR, etc.).
Proven experience in water reuse projects, including potable and non-potable reuse schemes.
Familiarity with reuse-specific technologies and regulatory frameworks.
Familiarity with national standards such as SANS, SABS, and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of contract administration (GCC, FIDIC).
Proficiency in relevant software: AutoCAD, Civil Designer, Civil3D; process simulation tools a plus.
