As we expand our commercial solar division, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Solar Engineer to support sales, design, and execution of large-scale solar projects.
This role will work closely with the Senior Key Account Manager – Commercial Sales, ensuring technically sound solutions, cost-effective project execution, and adherence to industry standards. The successful candidate will have deep expertise in commercial solar engineering, project supervision, and financial feasibility analysis.
Role Overview:
The Senior Commercial Solar Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of commercial solar projects, from pre-sales advisory to post-installation supervision. This includes:
Technical proposal development and feasibility studies.
Pre-contract ROI calculations and costoptimizationfor project viability.
System design and advisory, ensuring compliance with South African regulations.
Collaborationwith sales teams and EPC contractors/installers to align technical and commercial goals.
On-site supervision of installations, ensuring quality and performance standards.
The role requiresflexibilityto travel and spend time on-site across South Africa, depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Pre-Sales & Proposal Support
Collaborate with the Senior Key Account Manager – Commercial Sales to develop high-quality technical proposals for clients.
Conduct site assessments, energy yield calculations, and system simulations to determine project feasibility.
Prepare pre-contract financial models, including ROI calculations, payback periods, and energy cost savings projections.
Ensure all technical documentation complies with NRS 097, SANS 10142-1, and other relevant South African electrical standards.
System Design & Engineering Advisory
Design commercial solar PV systems, including grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid solutions for businesses and multi-dwelling units.
Specify system components (solar panels, inverters, battery storage, mounting structures, etc.) to optimize performance and cost.
Support EPC contractors with technical guidance and best practices for large-scale project execution.
Ensure system designs align with municipal regulations, grid connection requirements, and Eskom approvals.
Project Execution & Quality Supervision
Oversee the installation and commissioning of commercial solar projects, ensuring adherence to design specifications.
Conduct on-site inspections to verify compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations.
Work closely with contractors and project managers to resolve technical issues and installation challenges.
Implementquality controlprocedures and ensure all installations meet Wetility’s standards of excellence.
Cost Management & Commercial Viability
Monitor project costs and procurement processes to maintain financial viability.
Optimize material selection and labor costs to improve project profitability without compromising quality.
Assist in evaluating financing models such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and leasing solutions.
