Senior AWS DevOps Engineer | Cape Town
A global technology organisation is seeking a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to help shape and evolve a global CI/CD platform, enabling engineering teams to deliver software securely, reliably, and efficiently across cloud environments.
This role is suited to an experienced DevOps engineer who enjoys automation, infrastructure as code, platform engineering, and improving developer experience through modern delivery practices.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation
- Develop and support Jenkins shared libraries, pipeline templates, and reusable deployment patterns
- Modernise legacy pipelines and migrate them to standardised CI/CD approaches
- Integrate automated security, quality, and compliance controls into engineering workflows
- Improve platform observability using OpenTelemetry or similar technologies
- Build Python-based tooling, packages, and automation to improve platform capabilities and developer experience
- Partner with application teams to design CI/CD workflows aligned with platform standards
- Provide operational support for pipelines and platform components, including critical incident response
- Establish and document DevOps standards, best practices, and reusable solutions
- Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
What we’re looking for:
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure as code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation
- Proven experience designing and supporting CI/CD platforms, particularly Jenkins
- Strong Python development skills for reusable tooling and automation
- Experience with Docker, ECR, GitOps, and blue/green deployment practices
- Experience integrating security, quality, and compliance controls into engineering workflows
- Knowledge of observability and monitoring practices, including OpenTelemetry
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-management capabilities
- Experience working across global engineering teams
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
- Practical experience using AI tools within engineering workflows to improve productivity
- Experience with GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps
- Exposure to Kubernetes and troubleshooting containerised environments
