Section Head: Waste Characterisation Hay Level 15 (Internal) Jobs in North-West at South African Nuclear Energy Corporation

Job Purpose

Responsible for managing the personnel and activities within PDO — Waste Characterisation by planning, organising, leading and controlling systems in order to ensure that the allocated facilities are operated and kept safe in accordance with Nuclear Installation Licenses, SHEQ, IAEA and other applicable statutory requirements.

Key Performance Areas

Ensure implementation and maintenance of Necsa’s SHEQ & Security requirements, NIL requirements and other requirements as applicable.
Ensuring that waste characterisation facilities are operated in accordance with facility NIL, SAR, WAR, OTS, WKI/WIN, RP requirements and procedures.
Conduct self-inspections to assess facility compliance to NIL requirements.
Ensure all personnel are trained on relevant OTS documents, work instructions, and applicable procedures.
Ensure that prescribed PPE is issued, personnel trained on the use of PPE prior to performing activities.
Ensure statutory inspections of equipment is periodically conducted as per requirements.
Ensure Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems for the section are implemented and maintained.
Initiate event management when required as per SHEQ and NIL requirements.
Ensure Non-conformances and nuclear occurrences are documented and reported accordingly.
Initiate/ coordinate investigations to establish root causes.
Completion of all audit and inspection actions.
Ensure audits and inspection findings are managed adequately (reported, documented, investigated and closed out).
Prepare event close-out report to formally submit to the NNR.
Ensure documents and records are maintained as per WM requirements.
Ensure customer complaints are kept at a minimum.
Assist line manager to implement and manage HR policies and systems put in place to manage personnel attendance and performance.
Job descriptions (regularly updated and relevance of contents).
Leave planning and administration for the section. Arrange in advance, when needed and possible, backup personnel from Waste Operations.
Ensure that subordinates carry out their routine activities according to operational procedures and safety requirements (such as complying to statutory requirements).
Administrates training for the team to ensure capability of personnel to independently conduct waste drums characterisation.
Assist to prepare or review the projects specifications, URS, reports, purchase specifications, and requisitions.
Execute Ad-hoc project activities.
Ensure that working areas are kept clean and acceptable.
Clean-up of contaminated area/spillage etc. according to work instructions and safety instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:

National Diploma in Science/Physics/Mechanical/ Chemical engineering or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

Five years’ experience in plant operations of which two years’ experience must be in maintenance of the NIL and Management of QA/ QC systems.
