Safety Officers
Description of Position
The SHE officer identifies, reviews, and evaluates hazards within the work environment; implements controls and preventative measures; and prevents injuries resulting from environmental factors.
Qualifications, Experience, and Technical Requirements
Diploma (3 years):
National Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent
Registered with SACPCMP as a Health and Safety Officer (Proof of Registration required)
Minimum 5 years of experience in a SHE Officer position within construction
SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent certification
Knowledge of the National Environmental Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Traffic Act, municipal by-laws, and company policies and procedures
Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, materials, and products
Understanding and implementation of ISO 9000, 14000, and OHSAS 18001
Drivers License essential
Renewable energy background with a valid SACPCMP certificate
Special Knowledge / Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Proficient in internet searching and analysis
Excellent command of English (spelling, grammar, punctuation); knowledge of Xhosa is an advantage
Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
Strong planning, organizing, prioritizing, and time management skills
Ability to analyze numerical, verbal, and other information sources to provide solutions and reports
Roles and Responsibilities
Implement site-specific integrated management system, including:
Training on site
Ensuring safety resources are in place as per project scope
Evaluating subcontractor safety plans, ensuring compliance, and sign-off
Establishing and maintaining health and safety communication structures
Implementing planned task observations
Preparing and maintaining health and safety files as required
Implementing and communicating site-specific emergency plans
Maintaining site-specific IMS
Identifying risks and liabilities, addressing non-compliance
Improving IMS
Ensuring legal compliance and preventing future risks and accidents
Reporting and communication of site incidents
Ensuring on-site safety and legal compliance
Staying updated with legal requirements
