Job Purpose:
The core job
purpose
of a Retail Guarding Officer is to ensure the safety and security of customers, employees, and assets within the
retail environment
. This includes preventing theft, deterring criminal activity, responding to emergencies, conducting surveillance, and maintaining a visible and reassuring presence. This is a self-positing position.
Key Responsibilities:
Security Monitoring and Surveillance:
• Conduct regular patrols of the security premises to monitor for suspicious activities, theft, or vandalism.
• Utilize security equipment such as CCTV cameras and alarm systems to maintain a secure environment.
• Respond promptly to security incidents and alarms, taking appropriate action as per company protocols. Loss
Prevention
:
• I mplement and enforce loss
prevention
measures to minimize shrinkage and theft within the store.
• Perform bag checks and monitor customer exits to deter theft and ensure adherence to store policies. Customer and Staff Assistance:
• Provide assistance and guidance to customers and employees regarding security-related concerns or inquiries.
• Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor while interacting with customers and staff. Emergency Response:
• Act swiftly and decisively during emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, or security breaches.
• Coordinate with emergency services and management to ensure appropriate responses and resolution. Report Writing and Documentation:
• Accurately document all security incidents, observations, and actions taken in detailed reports.
• Maintain daily logs and records of security activities, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Collaboration
and
Communication
:
• Collaborate effectively with store management, fellow security personnel, and law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Communicate security concerns, updates, and recommendations to management and relevant stakeholders. Adherence to Policies and Procedures:
• E nforce company policies and procedures related to security, safety, and operational protocols.
• Stay informed about changes in security regulations and standards, ensuring compliance at all times.
Minimum Requirements:
· 2 years of previous retail security guarding experience
· PSIRA Grade C
· Matric certificate is preferred, but not essential
· Must be able to effectively communicate and write in English
· Members must reside in the areas of Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, Delft, Phillipi, Stellenbosch
· Must be in a physical healthy condition (no underlying medical conditions) We look forward to hear from you!!
