Grass Roof is looking for a hands-on Restaurant Manager to join our team in Port Elizabeth.
We are a busy farmstall-style restaurant with a strong local following, family-friendly atmosphere, play area, bike park, and high-volume breakfast and lunch service.
We need someone who leads from the floor, keeps service running smoothly, supports the team, handles pressure well, and takes ownership of the guest experience.
This role suits someone who has real restaurant experience, understands busy service periods, and knows how to manage staff, customers, stock, and daily operations without needing constant supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Manage daily restaurant operations
- Lead waiters, kitchen communication, runners, and front-of-house staff
- Keep service smooth during busy breakfast and lunch periods
- Handle customer complaints professionally
- Train, guide, and motivate staff
- Manage bookings and table flow
- Monitor service standards and staff performance
- Assist with stock control, ordering, and wastage management
- Make sure hygiene, cleanliness, and safety standards are followed
- Communicate clearly with owners and senior staff
- Help improve systems, service speed, and the customer experience
- Step in wherever needed during busy shifts
Requirements
- Previous restaurant management experience
- Strong leadership skills
- Good communication skills
- Calm under pressure
- Reliable, punctual, and organised
- Confident dealing with customers
- Able to work weekends, public holidays, and busy seasonal periods
- Good understanding of restaurant service, staff management, and daily operations
- Own transport preferred
- POS system experience preferred
- Stock control experience preferred
Nice to have
- Experience in a high-volume family restaurant
- Experience managing both indoor and outdoor seating areas
- Experience with bookings, events, or functions
- Basic admin and reporting skills
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
