Residence Assistant (Post Level 13.1)

The Residence Services Division is tasked with managing all student housing at Stellenbosch University (SU) sustainably, in line with the values of the University and in compliance with the national norms and standards.

  • Duties/Pligte

    • Responsible for providing support to the Division as and when required, specifically to the cluster residence coordinators and residence services coordinators in the inspections and upkeep of the residences for which they are responsible.
    • Providing relief to the residence services coordinators during long periods of absence from work and executing certain tasks as per the residence services coordinator's job description.
    • Assisting in any way or means to ensure the best turnaround time in the reporting and execution of maintenance tasks, inspections and assistance as requested by the cluster residence coordinators and residence services coordinators.
    • Maintaining safety standards within residences, houses and hubs.
    • Ensuring that all relevant inspections are done regularly, and that non-compliance is reported.
  • Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

    • Grade 12 (Senior Certificate).
    • Proven appropriate experience gained within comparable environments in the hospitality industry or student accomodation in terms of cleaning standards and norms.
    • Technical knowledge about the maintenance of buildings.
    • Knowledge and experience in occupational health and safety.
    • At least two to three years' work experience within these comparable environments.
    • Proven good interpersonal skills.
    • Empathy and a positive attitude towards students, staff and clients.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Good computer skills in MS Word (at least Outlook, Excel and Word).
    • Good administration and organisational skills.
    • Good conflict management skills.
    • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently.
    • The ability to work thoroughly and to manage time effectively.
    • The ability to act with confidence and authority.
    • Professional customer service.
  • Recommendation/Aanbeveling

    • Technical knowledge about maintenance and cleaning standards of student accomodation or the hospitality industry.
    • Knowledge and experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
    • A valid driver's licence.
