Are you a Quantity Surveyor who wants to play a commercial role in shaping developments from feasibility through to completion?
You’ll be joining an established property investment and development group with a growing portfolio of residential, mixed-use, and commercial projects across Southern Africa. Operating with a hands-on, commercially driven approach, the business is actively investing in new development and redevelopment opportunities and offers exposure across the full property lifecycle. With projects spanning multiple markets, this is an opportunity to work closely with experienced development and investment professionals while gaining exposure to increasingly complex projects beyond South Africa.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the commercial and cost management of development projects from initial feasibility through construction and final close-out. You’ll prepare development budgets, provide cost input into feasibility studies and funding models, manage procurement and contractor tender processes, and continually monitor project costs, cash flow, and cost-to-complete forecasts. You’ll administer construction contracts from the developer’s perspective, assess contractor payments, variations and claims, manage final accounts, and produce cost and drawdown reporting for senior stakeholders. Crucially, proven experience working on new-build developments is non-negotiable, while exposure to redevelopments and building conversions will be highly valued. You’ll also regularly visit project sites across South Africa and neighbouring African markets, with international travel expected approximately twice per month.
The ideal candidate will hold a BSc, BTech, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying and bring 5-8 years’ relevant experience, ideally gained within a developer-side or design-and-build environment. You’ll have a strong understanding of development economics, construction budgets, procurement, and the contractual frameworks governing development projects, including solid knowledge of JBCC or similar building contracts. Advanced Excel capability and exposure to QS software such as CCS/Candy will strengthen your profile, while professional registration or candidacy is advantageous. You’ll be commercially astute, confident working independently, comfortable travelling regularly into Africa, and able to engage effectively with contractors, consultants, finance teams, and senior stakeholders. Fluency in Afrikaans will also be highly advantageous.
