Hillingdale Capital is recruiting on behalf of its affiliate, Sixteen01 Capital, for a Quantitative Digital Asset Trader with prior experience successfully trading and managing market-neutral and delta-neutral digital asset strategies.
The role may be based in Cape Town or Johannesburg, with remote working considered in certain jurisdictions.
We are looking for a highly quantitative individual with strong coding capabilities, a deep understanding of blockchain and digital asset market infrastructure, and direct experience actively trading systematic market-neutral and/or delta-neutral strategies.
At this stage, we are open to considering both junior and senior candidates, but applicants must have relevant prior trading experience and appropriate university qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be involved in the research, development, implementation and ongoing management of quantitative digital asset trading strategies, with a particular focus on market-neutral and delta-neutral approaches.
Responsibilities will include:
- Actively managing and monitoring systematic digital asset trading strategies.
- Researching, developing and improving quantitative trading models.
- Developing and maintaining trading algorithms and automated execution systems.
- Managing portfolio exposures, hedging and risk across multiple digital assets and trading venues.
- Analysing market structure, liquidity, funding rates, basis opportunities and relative-value relationships across exchanges.
- Monitoring strategy performance, drawdowns, execution quality and operational risk.
- Working with exchange APIs, blockchain infrastructure and on-chain trading environments.
- Developing and maintaining the technology and infrastructure required to support systematic trading strategies.
- Identifying new market-neutral, delta-neutral and arbitrage opportunities across the digital asset ecosystem.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Prior professional experience trading digital assets, with direct exposure to market-neutral and/or delta-neutral strategies.
- A strong quantitative and mathematical background.
- Advanced programming and coding ability.
- Strong knowledge of blockchain technology, cryptocurrency markets and digital asset infrastructure.
- Experience working with crypto exchanges, APIs and automated trading systems.
- A strong understanding of portfolio construction, hedging, execution and quantitative risk management.
- The ability to analyse large datasets and translate research into executable trading strategies.
- A strong understanding of market microstructure and systematic trading.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- The ability to operate independently in a highly technical, fast-moving trading environment.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a strong university degree in a relevant quantitative discipline, which may include:

Postgraduate qualifications will be viewed favourably but are not essential where a candidate can demonstrate exceptional practical trading and quantitative experience.
Experience Level
We are prepared to consider both junior and senior appointments.
Junior candidates must nevertheless have demonstrable practical experience working with quantitative digital asset trading strategies rather than purely academic exposure.
Senior candidates should have a proven track record of developing, trading and managing systematic strategies and should be capable of taking significant responsibility for strategy development, execution and portfolio management.

Remote appointments will be considered depending on the candidate’s location, experience and ability to work effectively with the broader trading and technology team.
