Description

The purpose of this position is to ensure that good laboratory practices are followed, quality testing is conducted and reported, and to take full responsibility for the handling and maintenance of laboratory equipment. To assist in the verification of the various aspects/activities/programs of the Feed Safety Management Systems of the different SOILL sites, the preparation and assisting in audits. To act as a Food Safety team member and support the creation and maintenance of a food safety & quality culture.

Responsibilities
Ensure the correct calculation of quantities of antioxidants are recorded on the load sheets.
Ensure that each customer has a fully and correctly completed Test Report.
Responsible for operating sensitive laboratory equipment.
Daily and weekly verification checks in the Laboratory.
Inspection of goods received and raw materials.
Management of retainer and shelf-life samples.
Preparation of chemical solutions and standards.
Strict adherence to Laboratory Rules and Regulations.
Involvement with all Laboratory projects for Production.
Assist in the training and verifying of new Laboratory trainees.
Ensure continuous housekeeping within the Laboratory.
Handling and monitoring Critical Control Points and Operational Prerequisite Plans.
Verification activities.
Trending, data analysis and reporting.
Corrective action implementation and verification.
Order laboratory consumables as required.
Updating customer and supplier list.
Updating and maintaining document control register.
Weekly inspection of all operation and lab files as well as registers.

External microbiology testing

Ensure samples are submitted for microbiology testing as per specific customer requirements.
Ensure all results are sent to customers
Ensure invoices are signed off and customers are invoiced accordingly.
PCB testing: Ensure bi-annual PCB testing takes place.

Internal and external Audits/Inspections

Assist with gathering information
Maintaining systems
Corrective action verification

Customer complaints/Rejections

Assist with investigation

Health and Safety

Participate in safety forums created by Soill for example safety meetings and safety talks
Follow-up on any activities assigned through safety meetings / committees / representatives / management
Report all safety incidents to the relevant people
Attend safety education and refresher programmes
Comply with safety policies and procedures at Soill
Distribute safety information as and when required
Wear protective clothing (where applicable) at all times

Requirements
Qualification and Experience

A tertiary qualification in Food Science, National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry will be an advantage.
Experience in Quality systems in the food industry will be to the candidate`s advantage
Minimum of 2 years’ relevant working experience
Computer literacy in MS Office
