Under the general supervision of the Senior Printing Officer, the Printing Assistant is responsible for printing, machine mending, and recording.

Office Services
Main Duties
Printing
- Collect and arrange jobs in sequence as instructed to ensure readiness for a particular operation.
- Collect, gather, sew, machine-fold, cut, bind, and operate the guillotine and other equipment within the section.
- Fold printed sheets under instruction to enable subsequent finishing operations.
- Fold printed work according to the agreed imposition to ensure pages appear in the correct sequence.
- Gather numbered and unnumbered printed work in sequence for stitching and binding.
- Examine gathered and stitched work to ensure completeness and correct sequencing.
- Saddle-stitch or side-stitch gathered or inserted sections to produce a complete finished product.
- Trim completed products under instruction to prepare them for dispatch to customers.
- Record the time taken and materials used on appropriate forms to facilitate accurate costing.
- Frequently inspect jobs during production to ensure consistent quality throughout the print run.
Machine Mending
- Wash and oil machines daily to ensure they are ready for use.
- Ensure the safety and security of ongoing and completed work.
Recording
- Record the hours worked and materials used on each job using the appropriate forms to facilitate proper costing.
Job Knowledge and Skills
Education and Training
Applicants Must Have Either
- A Diploma or Certificate in Business Studies or a related field, plus two (2) years’ experience in the printing industry;
OR
- Be a serving officer applying through promotion with COSC, plus four (4) years’ experience in the printing industry.
